  H. Edward Knox

  Managing Partner / Attorney

  Edward Knox is the senior managing partner of Knox Law Center. Attorney Knox is a Board Certified Trial Specialist with the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Knox was chosen by North Carolina attorneys and recognized by Business North Carolina magazine as a Legal Elite in 2003, 2005, and 2006. Mr Knox has an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell, which is a “very high to preeminent” rating among his peers. Mr.Knox is also the recipient of the Super Lawyers Award for 2006 – 2015. In 2008, Mr. Knox was inducted into the General Practice Hall of Fame by the North Carolina Bar Association. Attorney Knox is a former NC State Senator (1971-1974) as well as a former mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina (1979-1983).

  Allen C. Brotherton

  Growing up in rural Lincoln County, Allen was blessed with a brilliant analytical mind and won a full ride to UNC as a Morehead Scholar, including summer programs in business and law. Instead of cashing in, he decided to use those blessings to help people who are in trouble. “I really care about my clients” says Allen. “Most have a legitimate story to be told but are up against the government or powerful insurance companies. My job is to know the law and the evidence inside-and-out, come up with a winning strategy, and use it to convince the judge or jury.” Allen is at home in the courtroom; he’s been in court fighting for his clients almost every day for his entire career. And the range of his experience is startling: he has successfully handled virtually every type of criminal charge and civil lawsuit imaginable. He’ll know how to help you. Allen has the respect of the other courtroom stakeholders. Our Judges know he’s fighting to win but also know he plays by the rules. Allen believes “Your reputation for integrity and preparation makes a difference to the weight given your arguments. Credibility matters.” Allen also has extensive experience in handling appeals in all levels of appellate courts, including victories in the N.C. Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals. Allen’s youth at East Lincoln High School included numerous academic and athletic leadership awards. He went on to a distinguished undergraduate and law school career at UNC (Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, Morehead Scholar). He has been active in the legal community, serving for 3 terms as chairman of the Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and also on numerous Court Committees at the request of our chief judge. He serves as a trustee of the thriving Mecklenburg Community Church and leads Large Group time with the Meckidz ministry at the Mountain Island Lake campus. He loves spending time with wife Lynn and their sons and daughters-in-law Haynes & Michele and Gray & Addy.

  Attorney Frances Knox received her Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest School of Law after graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and has been with the firm for over thirty years. Attorney Frances Knox specialize in representing those who have suffered personal injuries from motor vehicle accidents. She fights vigorously for her clients who have been involved in accidents and suffered personal injuries and general damages. She takes special interest in each and every injury claim, and without hesitation, expect insurance companies to do the same, in order to make certain her clients receive all of the compensation to which they are entitled.

  Heather P. Hodge

  I am an associate with this firm who focuses my practice on workers’ compensation cases. I am passionate about workers’ compensation cases because I believe that injured employees deserve protection and justice. I also regularly handle personal injury and other civil litigation matters. I have been with the firm for more than four years, and I work on a team with H. Edward “Eddie” Knox, our managing partner. Earning my Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina, I have a strong background in writing, editing, and public speaking. After Carolina, I went on to complete my Juris Doctor at Charlotte School of Law, receiving the distinction of cum laude on my law degree. While at Charlotte Law, I was inducted into the Order of the Crown. I am a native of Denver, North Carolina, but have resided in Charlotte for more than five years. I am committed to serving the community in the Queen City and surrounding areas. I am a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the Mecklenburg County Bar, and the Charlotte Women Attorneys. I am an active volunteer for the annual Fighting For Women with Fashion event to benefit the Clyde and Ethel Dickson domestic violence shelter. Most importantly, I am dedicated to serving as both an attorney and a true counselor for my clients.

  I received my Juris Doctorate from Georgia State University College of Law, in Atlanta, Georgia after completing a Master’s Degree in Philosophy at Georgia State University, and undergraduate studies at UNC-Charlotte. I am a member of the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. The primary focus of my practice is litigation, with emphasis on family and criminal law (adult and juvenile). I am a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, and I live there with my family. I am active in my community and that of Lincoln County.

  Lisa Godfrey

  Associate Attorney

  I received my degree of Juris Doctor from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., after completing my undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland. I began practicing law with the firm in 1982. My practice includes business and construction litigation. I also advise a variety of businesses on corporate law, employment and contract matters. In addition, I handle personal injury and professional malpractice cases. I have resided in Charlotte since 1982. My husband, John, and I are the parents of four children: Kristi, Ben, Mimi and Rachel. Lisa’s noteworthy cases include: The successful defense of a construction defect case which resulted in a verdict of $57,000 in favor of the general contractor. The court awarded attorney’s fees and interest amounting to an additional $55,000. Settlement of a legal malpractice case which resulted in a policy limit recovery for her client. Closing of a complex asset sale for a large construction company involving the sale of both land and equipment in North and South Carolina. Settlement of a claim against a developer for breach of contract amounting to a seven-figure recovery (in cash and property) for her client. Settlement of a work-related personal injury case for a client who suffered catastrophic and permanently debilitating injuries as a result of an industrial accident at his job site. Resolution of two complex cases against a large national homebuilder who sold homes with defective septic systems to two different families. The defective septic systems caused untreated wastewater to surface in the homeowners’ yards, creating serious health risks for both families. Lisa filed a lawsuit which included over ten defendants on behalf of each property owner for breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, negligent infliction of emotional distress, unfair and deceptive trade practices, and professional malpractice. With Lisa’s extensive legal experience, she was able to avoid a costly and stressful trial by settling these cases during mediation. Her clients received compensation for their damages which enabled them to correct the defects in their septic systems. A jury trial which involved claims of undue influence and breach of fiduciary duty resulted in a successful verdict for her clients.

  Michael Knox

  Attorney

  I have been practicing law since 1989, and am well-known for serving as a district court judge in Cabarrus County from 2000 to 2010. During that time, I presided over thousands of cases in criminal, civil and juvenile court, balancing the facts of the case with the law to reach a fair and impartial decision. I have now returned to the private sector representing clients in domestic, criminal, juvenile, and personal injury cases in both Mecklenburg and Cabarrus Counties. I am also a certified Superior Court Mediator and Family Financial Mediator. My private practice experience along with the expertise gained through my tenure on the bench make me an asset to both my clients and the firm. I am a native of Davidson, NC but make Concord my home now. I graduated from NC State University in 1986 and went on to graduate from Wake Forest Law School in 1989. I was in private practice from 1989 to 2000 handling criminal, domestic, and juvenile matters in Cabarrus County. I am a past member of the Corporation for the Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County, a former Deacon, a Sunday School teacher at Bethel Presbyterian Church, a singer in the southern gospel quartet “Witness”, and am on the Board of Directors of The Old Courthouse Theatre in Concord. I was also a volunteer firefighter for many years and I sit on the Board of Directors for the Odell Fire and Rescue Department.
